We witnessed the embarkation of these shows years back when ability was given a required platform to showcase itself facing cut throat competition. With the passage of time, it got revamped. Along with it, fads that had arrived with the advent of modern civilization got attached. Today however, reality shows indicate a battle for dexterity blended with prejudice of the judges and a predicament of the fighters concerned.
Currently reality shows are either based on talent searches, comedy shows, game shows, and even shows where celebrities find prospective life partners! These shows are publicized due to drama and the scenes that they create like, controversial statements, use of abusive language, and cat fights between the female contestants of the show. News channels particularly highlight these incidents thereby boosting the show's TRPs (Target Rating Point).
The multitudinous shows demand manifold skills like making the audience laugh, dance your way to the prize money, surviving on a snake infested island, along with frivolous concepts such as finding your soul mate on national television, claiming to do absolutely ‘anything’ for entertainment, proving that a ‘city girl’ can survive in a village and so on. But is this even reality? Do we genuinely need such superficial skills to survive the REAL world?

For example, when the nation was enduring the problem of inflation one could win up to 10 crores in a reality show which did not demand much of aptitude or genius. What is happening to the distribution of income in this nation? While the silly and rich are getting richer, the helpless and poor watch it on TV. ?
Initially these shows were, meant for the masses. Now a new dimension has been added to these shows; celebrity reality shows. These shows are the hot topics of discussions in schools and colleges. India is a star struck nation where people are always eager to know more about the happenings in the lives of these stars. These shows are called 'reality shows' because they are based on the opinions of the masses and the final call is based on their decisions. But are they really based on the decisions of the masses or on the pre-written script of the show? These have been questions surrounding the authenticity of these shows.
Would the World Cup retain its charm if it were to be held every year instead of once in four years? These shows too, to sustain their allure, must cease hankering after TRPs and must start providing a true platform for the underprivileged without window-dressing.
